Exactly two years ago the big idea for +597 Photography was born. I just finished reading the book ‘Big Magic’ by Elizabeth Gilbert about how ideas can be seen as spiritual beings that look for human hosts to bring them to life.

 

That is exactly how I felt about +597 Photography. It was more than just another business. It was a spiritual being that needed to be born. I have never been so enthusiastic and passionate about anything and was working non-stop. Within two weeks the big idea turned into a business plan, within two months I had four photographers join in and the online gallery website was up and working.

 

And then…. nothing!

 

I thought I would be able to sit back and relax. All the work was done and sales would happen automatically. Everybody loved the idea, loved the website, but no one bought. Well, except for my dad, who bought the very first art picture.

 

And then….again nothing.

 

I lost hope a bit and didn’t really feel like putting any energy into it anymore. Everyone I talked to said that I needed to be patient, that every new business needs at least two years of investing before you can be successful. Pffff….

 

But it is two years later and I now represent the artworks of six amazingly talented photographers and just got a big order in for the Suriname market. I am very happy I did not lose all hope and continued caring and working relentlessly.
