Rounding off this challenging year, talented international artists explore the beauty of nature and life with the new exhibition “A Trip Around the World” on display at the Sir Art Studio, on view through December. The gallery is located on Amsterdam’s vibrant Albert Cuypstraat, down the street from Sir Albert Hotel. Two Suriname photographers take part in this international art exhibition with beautiful pictures of Suriname.
To travel or not to travel?
After a challenging time, we are not that used to traveling anymore. A question on everyone’s mind remains: To travel or not to travel? If you’re not yet ready to travel to that far off destination, “A Trip Around the World” brings you that feeling of nature, togetherness and love you get only from travel.
Seven international artists dive into these ideas with their work on display in the Sir Art Studio. The exhibition starts with the ‘Habitat Series’ by Eelco Hilgersom, inspired by the beauty of nature’s organisms that is followed by a meditative journey of the self by Isabel Evangelisti and Sofia Garfias of Mexico. Through its mythical characters and everyday images, they capture the subtle nuances and glimmers of poetry that everyday life offers. Daan Noppen emphasizes the meditative journey and forms a tangible connection between our mind, body and soul with fine drawing and painting.
Suriname photographers Fabian Vas and Rafael Jantz take your inner journey outwards with their photography from Suriname. They use drones to photograph the country’s beautiful nature from above, bridging the gap between the Western World and the Amazon. Lastly, Corine van Voorbergen rounds off your trip around the world with a “Projection of Growth” that you gain once you get back to your everyday life.
Sir Art Studio in Amsterdam
The Sir Art Studio was introduced in December 2020 by Sir Hotels. Curated by Amsterdam-based trend watcher, creative consultant and art lover Bionda Sno, who said, “My goal is to introduce artists who are underexposed by the traditional institutions.” The Sir Art Studio is a platform for emerging artists. Not only does the range of different artistic styles offer works for art connoisseurs and buyers, but also for people who are new to the Amsterdam art scene.
Tribute to Suriname
Art curator Bionda Sno – herself of Surinamese descent – pays tribute to her roots by adding Surinamese talent to this international exhibition. Through Chantal Kartaram of +597 Photography she came into contact with the beautiful photos of her motherland. She is delighted to be able to share this with the art scene in Amsterdam.
