Description
‘Babunsanti’ by Fabian Vas
Galibi is a village in the Marowijne district and is located at the mouth of the Marowijne River and on the border with French Guiana. At approximately one hour by boat from Galibi you will find the unique nature reserve called: Babunsanti.
The unexpectedly white sandy beach of Babunsanti is visited every year by the protected aitkantis (leather turtles), krapé (green turtle) and olive ridley sea turtles who lay their eggs there. During the rainy season, the cola-colored water from the swamp behind Babunsanti breaks through the beach and flows into the sea, creating a beautiful spectacle of dark and light water.
