Description
‘Atjoni’ by Fabian Vas
Pokigron, also popularly referred to as Atjoni, is a village in the Sipaliwini district of Suriname. The village is located on the left bank of the Upper Suriname river, just southwest of the Brokopondo Stuwmeer.
Atjoni is located about 180 kilometers south of Paramaribo and takes around 3 hours by car.
It is the last village that can still be reached by road from the capital Paramaribo. Atjoni is therefore an important transfer point for domestic transport. This is where the people and goods are unloaded and loaded. Boats from here connect the other villages south of Pokigron, but also the many tourist resorts along the river.
Tourist resorts such as Isadou, Menimi, Anaula and many others. When you visit Suriname, please make sure you visit this beautiful part of the country.
